About Lane Home Furnishings
Lane Home Furnishings traces its origins to 1912 in Altavista, Virginia, when John Lane purchased a small box factory and, with his son Ed, began producing cedar hope chests under the name Standard Red Cedar Chest Company. These chests became iconic, thanks to creative marketing and widespread popularity during both World Wars. The brand became especially well-known for its craftsmanship and use of quality materials, building a strong reputation in American homes.
By the 1950s and 60s, Lane expanded its offerings beyond cedar chests to include tables, bedroom and dining furniture, and accent pieces. Its mid-century lines like Perception, Tuxedo, and Acclaim became especially popular. The company introduced patented materials such as Lanewood, a moisture-resistant plywood, and gained recognition for innovation, design, and reliability. Techniques refined during wartime production were later used to improve furniture manufacturing efficiency.
In the 1970s, Lane moved into the upholstered furniture market, acquiring Action Industries to produce recliners and other seating. This helped Lane become a household name for comfort furniture, especially known for durable recliners, sofas, and chairs. Its Comfort King series and other product lines emphasized strength, support, and ergonomic design, combining traditional quality with modern comfort.
While the company has seen changes in ownership and structure over the decades, Lane has remained a staple in American furniture. In the 1990s and 2000s, the brand faced market challenges and restructuring, including the end of cedar chest production in Altavista. Still, Lane adapted, shifting its focus toward upholstered seating and living-room essentials, including sectionals and lift chairs.
Today, Lane Home Furnishings is celebrated for its legacy of fine craftsmanship, innovation, and comfort. Its designs balance timeless elegance with everyday usability. From its iconic cedar chests to today’s modern recliners and sofas, the brand remains committed to creating furniture that brings warmth, function, and style into homes across the country.
Hear From Customers
I’ve owned a lot of furniture over the years, but my Lane recliner is hands-down the best chair I’ve ever had. Built solid, no wobbles, and the Comfort King mechanism holds up like a champ—even with daily use. The fabric’s durable, the padding stays firm, and the steel frame doesn’t flex like cheaper brands. I like knowing it’s made in the USA—adds a level of trust. Assembly was a breeze too. I’ve since recommended Lane to my son, and he picked up a bed frame that’s just as solid. This is furniture made to last, not throw away.

Lane Home Furnishings consistently delivers timeless design with practical durability. I often suggest their dressers and platform beds to clients who want American-made quality without sacrificing style. The finishes are rich, drawer interiors are clean and smooth, and I love their understated elegance—easy to blend into both modern and transitional interiors. One standout feature? Their storage pieces always arrive well-packaged with minimal assembly required, which my clients appreciate. Lane isn’t just a budget-friendly brand—it’s a dependable one with thoughtful construction and real attention to detail. It’s a staple in my portfolio for a reason.

I bought our Lane sectional on a whim during a furniture sale, and now I honestly wish I’d discovered them sooner. With three kids, a dog, and constant chaos, I needed something comfy, sturdy, and easy to clean. Lane delivered. The cushions hold shape, the frame is rock solid, and even after juice spills and movie night messes, the fabric still looks great. Plus, their recliner? My husband basically lives in it. It’s his throne. I love knowing our furniture can handle real family life without falling apart. Lane helped make our house feel like home—cozy, strong, and lived-in.
